In The Kitchen: 8 Great Burgers

I've been in the kitchen with Gooseberry Patch and you are not going to be disappointed!

I received my cookbooks in the mail and tore into my copy. I couldn't wait to make the first recipe and we found JUST the recipe to have for a fun summer evening with family and friends in Summer in the Country.

We needed a quick and yummy fix for our grumbling bellies after celebrating Miss Add's birthday and hanging out all afternoon. And 8 Great Burgers fit the bill!

Put your ground beef

pork sausage (I HIGHLY recommend getting your sausage from Heather over at 3 Kids and Lots of Pigs it is AMAZING!)

worcestershire sauce

parmesan cheese and pepper in a bowl

Mix together

Make into patties

Grill to your liking

If you happen to have a husband who loves to grill, then you can let him join in the fun if you want and work his grillin' magic.

THEN you remember that you don't have any tomatoes and Scott offers to go get some. :)

And these beauties are what you get!

Dress it up to your liking....

And enjoy!

Special thanks to Gooseberry Patch for providing me with this great cookbook to try and share with you. If you would like to purchase this or other cookbooks, please visit their store. If you would like to see other great recipes, check out www.realfarmwivesofamerica.com .

Wordless Wednesday: The Corn Army

Okay…so maybe you already knew I was weird and quirky…after reading this, you will have NO doubt. Enjoy! :)

I know that this is the Year of Soybeans with the Indiana State Fair, but the farmers decided to plant corn in front of my house this year. So…no offense intended Bennie The Bean…you are awesome! I love the corn too though!

Here is the view from my front porch

I LOVE it! It is my summer time privacy fence!

When I had my first summer by myself in the middle of God’s beautiful country…the corn was comforting to me. My life was crazy and unsettled, but the corn gave me peace. I don’t know how to explain it…so I won’t try because this will become an even LONGER Wordless Wednesday! :)

Anyway…I have a vivid imagination…blame it on my lifelong love of books. When you are mowing a massive yard (pre-MP3 player days), you have time to think of all kinds of things. One particular day, I started up a story in my head about a young girl living in the country on her own. She was safe though because she was protected by her army…her Corn Army. (I know, weird…just stay with me!) The Corn Army stood guard outside the young girl’s home and watched over her all summer long. There was a whole scenario that went along with it and the tall, strong Corn Stalk guards uprooting when they needed to come to her rescue, etc. So I thought of this story literally a few years ago…but every time I looked at the tall, healthy corn, I would smile and think of the Corn Army Guards.

Then I was mowing the other day and looked at the bottom of the corn stalk. I had NEVER looked at the bottom of a corn stalk before! And what did I see?!

Little Legs!

Doesn’t it just look like something out of a Disney movie? Like they COULD just uproot and start a little song and dance number (I’m imagining something like a scene from Beauty & The Beast) or go to battle at will to protect their young girl in the country!

I just thought it was the coolest thing. They look ready to go at a moments notice.

God is such an imaginative creator! I can’t believe I have never noticed the “legs” of the corn before!

I’m sure going to miss these fields…*sigh*
